I'm Mary, and I am the founder of Speech by the Sound. I am excited to share this new space with you. Speech by the Sound is a community based practice serving families in Northport, East Northport, and nearby towns.

At the heart of our work is the simple belief that every child deserves the chance to be heard. We provide speech and language therapy that is rooted in research, personalized to each child, and designed to be both engaging and meaningful.

I have been a speech-language pathologist for more than twenty years and have worked in hospitals, schools, clinics, and private practice. No matter the setting, I have learned that children make the greatest progress when therapy feels natural, fun, and connected to their daily lives. That is why I focus on partnering with families and creating learning experiences that highlight each child’s strengths.

This blog will be a place for me to share ideas, resources, and reflections. You can expect posts about child communication, current research, practical tips for supporting speech and language at home, techniques that I find especially effective, and occasional recommendations for tools and activities that families may find helpful.
